Stone Suite

From €560

per night, two guests, breakfast included

The old hayloft, opened to the roof beams, with a west-facing terrace looking down the length of the valley.

The Stone Suite runs the full width of the upper barn. We removed the ceiling to reach the chestnut beams, laid a limestone floor, and cut one long opening in the west wall — glass to the floor, a terrace beyond it, and the valley falling away below.

It is the room people book for the evening light. From about six the whole suite turns the colour of the ridge, and it holds that colour for the better part of an hour.

A daybed under the window takes a third guest comfortably, and the bath sits in the open with a view of the same ridge.

In the room

  • Private west terrace
  • Open chestnut roof beams
  • Freestanding stone bath
  • Daybed for a third guest
  • Wood-burning stove for winter
  • Binoculars and valley map

Atmosphere

Six in the evening, west wall

There is a point in the evening when the ridge, the floor and the beams are all the same warm colour. We have stopped trying to photograph it and simply leave the chairs facing the right way.
